Measuring Violations of Positive Involvement in Voting

چکیده
In the context of computational social choice, we study voting methods that assign a set winners to each profile voter preferences. A method satisfies property positive involvement (PI) if for any election in which candidate x would be among winners, adding another who ranks first does not cause lose. Surprisingly, number standard violate this natural property. paper, investigate different ways measuring extent violates PI, using computer simulations. We consider probability (under models preferences) PI violations randomly drawn profiles vs. profile-coalition pairs (involving coalitions sizes). argue order choose between and one not, should violation conditional on choosing winners. also relativize what call potency, causes Although absolute frequencies may low, after conditioning relativization, see under certain much voter's potency is turned against them - particular, their desire favorite elected.

Measuring voting power in convex policy spaces
Classical power index analysis considers the individual’s ability to influence the aggregated group decision by changing its own vote, where all decisions and votes are assumed to be binary. In many practical applications we have more options than either “yes” or “no”. Here we generalize three important power indices to continuous convex policy spaces. This allows the analysis of a collection o...
متن کاملVoting and different ranking orders in DEA
Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) technique now widely use for efficiency evaluation of a set of Decision Making Units (DMUs). As regards of the necessity for ranking efficient units different DEA models presented each of which has advantages and rank efficient units from special aspects. Note that all the existing ranking models have disadvantages, as well and there is not a model in which all t...
متن کاملMeasuring paternal involvement in childcare and housework
There is currently no quantitative tool for measuring paternal involvement in childcare and housework. To address this, we run Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) on a sample of households from the 2001-02 sweep of the UK’s Millennium Cohort Study. Two quantitative measures of paternal involvement in childcare and housework are derived for when the child is aged nine months old, which appear to ...
متن کاملconstruction of vector fields with positive lyapunov exponents
in this thesis our aim is to construct vector field in r3 for which the corresponding one-dimensional maps have certain discontinuities. two kinds of vector fields are considered, the first the lorenz vector field, and the second originally introced here. the latter have chaotic behavior and motivate a class of one-parameter families of maps which have positive lyapunov exponents for an open in...
